20 - Light and Red

"Light and Red" 6x8 inches on canvas-board.

I feel good about this one, it was based on a stock photo I found a few days ago and really liked. I mean its not perfect but I really like it, even though I moved away from the photo on the sleeve shadows. After 3 hours I was starting to lose my focus for a moment when I did that but it didn't look bad so much as just didn't match the photo so I let it be. I started painting about 1pm and quit at 4pm, hastily showered and ran out the door to meet friends for the evening.

My big focus was this gal's gorgeous red hair, just floating around her head like that and catching the light all golden. :)

I've got a huge coffee table book on Impressionism, showcasing large prints of paintings and long biographies of each artist. It's over a foot long, and about 283 pages with size 10 text throughout. I'm halfway through, and am on the Monet chapter. (I really enjoyed Renoir and studied a potrait he did of Monet and Monet's big fuzzy beard before painting this.)

The above picture made me question my ability to paint for a little while...

This portrait worked out well and your underdrawing is really good to.

Thanks Dan :) I am taking this as a reminder to not start to give up on it halfway through (there were few times I would think No way this or that part is right, right??) and then it just got better as long as I didn't quit. :)
